Grammar Patterns
-(으)로 by means of (instrument / direction) Attached to a noun to indicate a means of transport, a tool, or a direction. Use -로 after a vowel or ㄹ, and -으로 after other consonants.
버스로 가요. — I go by bus.
지하철로 갈아타세요. — Transfer to the subway.
오른쪽으로 가세요. — Go to the right.
-아/어서 and then (sequence of actions) Connects two clauses where the first action must happen before the second and the two are closely linked. Often used for travel sequences like 'take a taxi and (then) go'.
택시를 타고 가서 도착했어요. — I took a taxi, went, and arrived.
공항에 가서 표를 샀어요. — I went to the airport and bought a ticket.
-는 데 (시간이) 걸리다 it takes (time) to do Used to express how long an action takes. The verb stem takes -는 데, followed by a duration and 걸리다 ('to take/be required').
공항까지 가는 데 한 시간 걸려요. — It takes an hour to get to the airport.
표를 사는 데 십 분 걸렸어요. — It took ten minutes to buy a ticket.
