Grammar Patterns

V-stem + 아/어요 해요체 Present Tense

Find the verb stem (remove 다). Add 아요 if the last vowel is ㅏ or ㅗ; otherwise add 어요. 하다 verbs become 해요.

가다 → 가요 (bright vowel ㅏ) — To go → goes/go
gada → gayo
먹다 → 먹어요 (dark vowel ㅓ) — To eat → eat
meokda → meogeoyo
공부하다 → 공부해요 (하다 verb) — To study → study
gongbuhada → gongbuhaeyo
안 + V Negation with 안

Place 안 directly before the verb to negate it. Simpler form for casual negation.

안 가요. — I'm not going.
An gayo.
안 먹어요. — I'm not eating.
An meogeoyo.
