Released in 2016 and directed by Yeon Sang-ho, Train to Busan is a zombie disaster film set almost entirely aboard a speeding KTX bullet train. Seok-woo (Gong Yoo), a workaholic Seoul fund manager, agrees to take his young daughter Su-an (Kim Su-an) to her mother in Busan for her birthday. Moments before departure, an infected woman slips aboard, and a mysterious virus rips through the carriages, turning passengers into ravenous zombies within seconds. As the outbreak spreads car by car, a small band of survivors—including the tough, expectant father Sang-hwa (Ma Dong-seok) and his pregnant wife, a high-school baseball team, and a self-serving executive—must fight their way forward to reach the one city rumored to remain safe. Confined to the narrow train cabins, the passengers confront not only the undead but also human selfishness, sacrifice, and the bond between a distant father and his daughter.

Estrenada en 2016 y dirigida por Yeon Sang-ho, Train to Busan es una película de catástrofe y zombis que transcurre casi por completo a bordo de un tren de alta velocidad KTX. Seok-woo (Gong Yoo), un adicto al trabajo gestor de fondos de Seúl, accede a llevar a su pequeña hija Su-an (Kim Su-an) hasta su madre en Busan por su cumpleaños. Justo antes de partir, una mujer infectada se cuela en el tren y un virus desconocido recorre los vagones, convirtiendo a los pasajeros en zombis en cuestión de segundos. Train to Busan is the film that put Korean zombie cinema firmly on the global map. By confining nearly all of its action to a speeding KTX bullet train, director Yeon Sang-ho creates a relentless, claustrophobic pressure cooker that never lets the tension slacken; the car-by-car chase set pieces are choreographed with breathtaking density and clarity. Yet what elevates the film above standard genre fare is its sharp social allegory: as the outbreak spreads, the survivors face a deadlier threat than the undead in the form of human selfishness, class privilege, and panic, even as small acts of solidarity and sacrifice shine through. Gong Yoo anchors the story as a distant father whose arc toward selflessness gives the carnage real emotional stakes, while young Kim Su-an delivers a remarkably moving performance that pays off devastatingly in the finale. Ma Dong-seok is a scene-stealing standout as the burly, big-hearted Sang-hwa. Invited to the Midnight Screenings section at Cannes and drawing more than 11.5 million admissions at home, the film became the launchpad for the worldwide K-zombie craze. Train to Busan es la película que situó definitivamente al cine de zombis coreano en el mapa mundial. Al confinar casi toda su acción a un tren de alta velocidad KTX en marcha, el director Yeon Sang-ho construye una olla a presión claustrofóbica e implacable que no afloja la tensión ni un instante; las secuencias de persecución vagón a vagón están coreografiadas con una densidad y una claridad asombrosas. Pero lo que eleva la película por encima del género es su afilada alegoría social: a medida que se propaga el brote, los supervivientes enfrentan una amenaza más mortal que los muertos vivientes en forma de egoísmo humano, privilegio de clase y pánico, aunque también brillen pequeños gestos de solidaridad y sacrificio.
